After completing the 2015 Back to the Classics Challenge I decided to go for the 2016 Challenge as well. Some of the categories are a little different this year and I look forward to exploring the new categories.

| A few possibilities! |
1. A 19th Century Classic: Probably this will be an Anthony Trollope novel. Can’t get enough of Anthony Trollope!
2. A 20th Century Classic: Not sure about this one. I’m considering The Good Earth by Pearl Buck, Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, Mama’s Bank Account by Kathryn Forbes, A Lantern in Her Hand by Bess Streeter Aldrich, as well as several others. We shall see what I end up choosing.
3. A Classic by a Woman Author: I’m thinking a Jane Austen novel but not sure which one. Seeing as I’ve only read one of her books, Sense and Sensibility, I have many to choose from!
4. A Classic in Translation: I am looking forward to reading Fortunata and Jacinta by Benito Perez Galdos. My good friend Silvia is a huge fan of Galdos and just can’t say enough good about him. She seems to feel about him in the same way I feel about Trollope! I’m thinking this will be a wonderful book!
5. A Classic by a Non-White Author: This one is up in the air at the moment.
6. An Adventure Classic: Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne.
7. A Fantasy, Science Fiction, or Dystopian Classic: Out of the Silent Planet by CS Lewis
8. A Classic Detective Novel: Still working on choosing a title. If all else fails I have several Sherlock Holmes titles on my shelves.
9. A classic which includes a name of a place in the title: Framley Parsonage by Anthony Trollope! This was a no-brainer for me! Anthony Trollope? Of course. And it’s the next book to read in the Chronicles of Barsetshire series.
10. A classic which has been banned or censored: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley or Animal Farm by George Orwell.
11. Reread a classic read in school (high school or college): I first read My Antonia by Willa Cather when I was in high school and definitely enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see what my take on it will be rereading it so many years later. I have an idea I will get much more out of it!
12. A volume of classic short stories: Great American Short Stories, edited by Paul Negri. Some of the nineteen stories in this volume I’ve read before, but the overwhelming majority of them will be new to me.
So those are my choices. Only one category of the 12 is a complete blank which is better than last year when I announced my intentions to take on the 2015 challenge. It will be interesting to see which books I end up actually reading.

Me too! I actually finished reading one already and should be posting a review early next week. It will be interesting to see how many of these choices I end up reading and how many I swap out for others!

I love your choices! I forgot C.S. Lewis had written a science fiction series as well, otherwise it would have made it on my list.
I love P&P, and disliked most other Austen books…just my recommendation :p

I'm thinking of possibly adding a Jane Austen title to my list of books to read this year. I don't think it will be Emma though. I had a hard time getting into that one the last time I tried to read it. I've heard many say Persuasion is their favorite Austen title. And I've not read that one.

I began reading Pride and Prejudice once and never finished it. I was thinking it might be the one I decide to read this year. 🙂

It is hard to believe that I've not read Pride and Prejudice. All three of my daughters read it years ago, so I'm thinking that's probably the title I go with.
I am looking forward to reading the first book in the space trilogy and will probably read the other two as well

Well, unfortunately I can't say anything about either Emma or Persuasion since I've not read either, but I did enjoy Sense and Sensibility last year. Let me know which Austen title you end up going with!
